Philippe Parreno
Philippe Parreno

French artist who began exhibiting in the mid-90s. His work and approach are influenced by cinema and television, and show business in general.

He stands out for the theatricality and staging of everyday objects decontextualized (displaced from their environment), making them take on a new meaning (sometimes hidden) and giving rise to a space between the real and the fictitious, often with the help of lighting and audiovisual projections.

Video and image are also part of his artistic imaginary. Parreno's influence can be seen in La Posada de El Chaflán, for example, in the lighting in general and, above all, in the olive tree and the "Hotel" sign in the restaurant, reused from the previous establishment and now exposed to the public, bearing witness to the past, but without renouncing it, and giving rise, on the other hand, to a contrast between the city and the countryside, nature and the man-made, concepts that are repeated throughout the inn.
